Tide of Banners
★★★★☆ 4.4
Tide of Banners is a thinker. It's hex-based tactics where you move small squads around maps and the ground matters as much as your units. High ground, rivers, forests, all of it shifts the odds, so I spent whole turns just staring at the board plotting a flank.
The campaign eases you in with short scenarios before letting the maps get big and nasty. There's a skirmish mode too, which is where I lost most of my time, replaying the same map trying to win with fewer losses. The AI isn't genius but it punishes sloppy positioning, which is all I ask.
No timers, no pressure to rush. You can pause mid-move, think, and come back. For a strategy game on a phone that patience is a gift.
